American Idol auditions were held in New Orleans, Louisiana on Tuesday, August 31, 2004.
We arrived in New Orleans on Sunday, August 29 to find that a line had already started forming across the street from the Super Dome. We quickly received a number, and got in line! I was number 211.
The line grew continuously, as more people arrived in town. It stretched several blocks down the street. It was so interesting to see the line of tents, lawn chairs, sleeping bags, and ice chests.
At 6:00 p.m. on Sunday they moved us across the street to line up around the outside of the Super Dome.
Throughout the night everyone sang, played cards, read, walked around and ATE! It was tons of fun.....
I don't know what I had expected, but I had SO much fun. I made some good friends, and we just hung out all night long. Here I am with Coke (on the left) and Britton.
At 5:30 a.m. on Monday, they told us to get ourselves packed up to get ready to go into the Super Dome. We weren't allowed to take most of our stuff inside, so everyone was trying to haul their stuff back to their cars and hotel rooms!
As it turned out, they didn't let us in the Super Dome until 7:30 a.m. Once we were in, we were given wrist bands and tickets, with assigned seat numbers.
They gave us instructions, and told us what to expect during the auditions. After that we were allowed to leave. I went back to my hotel and SLEPT!!!
We arrived back at the Super Dome at 5:30 a.m. on Tuesday morning. We were all singing, to warm up our voices - and to have fun. It was so cool to hear thousands of people singing at once!
Around 8:00 a.m., the auditions began. I was in the very first group to go out onto the football field. Here I am walking out onto the field, in front of Britton and Coke.
After the four of us sang, the judge looked at Britton and told him that he would go on to the next round. She told the rest of us, "I'd like to thank you three for auditioning". That was all we were told, so we got our wrist bands cut off and left the stadium.
When we got outside we met up and said goodbye. It was disappointing to get cut, but the whole trip was worth EVERY minute. I had so much fun, and it's one of those situations where they say, "You never know unless you try!".
We all got settled in, and set up our 'camps'. Only 36 hours to go until auditions!!!
I was in the first section, so we went to our seats and watched as the stadium began to fill up.
The 3 of us, and one other guy, auditioned in front of one judge. We sang, one by one. Here I am actually
singing!
Britton and Coke, thank yall for being such good friends.
I had a super time!
Congratulations, Britton, for making it to the 2nd round!
